The incident took place in East Garden City around 2:45 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 16.

According to Nassau County Police detectives, a witness spotted two men attempting to open the doors of the Verizon store located at 880 Old Country Road.

When the witness approached the men, one of the men pointed what appeared to be a handgun, placing him in fear for his life. He quickly drove away and called 911, police said.

Responding officers located one of the men, identified as Jonathan Parra, age 26, Westbury, in front of 435 B Old Country Road in Westbury, police said.

As officers approached, the man turned and threatened the officers with what appeared to be a firearm, police added.

Detectives said officers discharged their weapons resulting in the man being struck in the leg. The other man fled the scene on foot.

The man was arrested and officers applied a tourniquet to his leg to control the bleeding. The man and two officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

 The investigation is ongoing.

Parra was charged with two counts of menacing and will be arraigned at a later date.
